Mars rules Scorpio in the traditional scheme, before Pluto was assigned to it by modern astrologers, so the stone is red coral. The older system uses only the planets you can see.
The two answers come from two different systems. The planetary one assigns a gem to each of the nine grahas and gives a sign the gem of the planet that rules it, which is why some signs share a stone. The birth-month one is a retail standard, set by a jewelers’ association in 1912 and amended as recently as 2016, and every sign runs across two months of it. Neither is a claim about what a stone does: how the two systems work, and what they can and cannot tell you.
